Studying to Pass the DELE and ECELE Exams | Awesome Tips To Get Your Certificate in Spanish as a Second Language

Spanish is increasingly important in the professional world. As more employers operate at an international and cross-cultural level, being bilingual can help you land a better job -- and make more money doing it.

For Spanish speakers, the best way to prove your professional-grade Spanish skills is to take one of the two major tests that certify Spanish ability -- the DELE exam, or the ECELE exam.

Here, we’ll look at both exams and cover what you need to know to pass the DELE and ECELE exams, and why studying with a private tutor can help you get there faster.

How to study for the ECELE exam

The E.C.E.L.E. Certificate (Examen de Certificación de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is an official certificate provided by the Mexican Government. Obtaining this certification means that you are of the caliber of Spanish students in Mexican Spanish that can represent the language while working for companies and universities around the world.

The ECELE exam is designed for people over the age of 15 who want to use their Spanish skills professionally, and not only that, be able to impress potential employers with their resume before getting the chance to speak Spanish to them in person.

It is also usable for anyone wants to get an internationally recognized certificate of Spanish ability from the Mexican government.

This exam was first started in 2011 by Mexico’s CENEVAL government organization. Like the DELE exam, the levels of the ECELE Exam are based on the Marco común europeo de referencia para las lenguas.

By studying for the exam with Live Lingua, you’ll be prepared not only to pass the test, but be more confident in approaching potential employers.

Questions to ask yourself before taking the ECELE exam

  • How confident are you in your grammar and conjugation? If you can’t easily speak complex sentences while moving between past, present, and future tense, you need more work.
  • Can you speak the language at a professional level, not just read or understand it?
  • Do you grasp all of the rules of Spanish grammar?

If you can confidently check all of these boxes, you are ready to take the ECELE exam. If not, Study Prep Lounge team suggests that you consider more tutoring.

How to study for the DELE exam

The D.E.L.E. Certificate (Diplomas en Español como Lengua Extranjera ) is the most recognized and difficult Spanish certificate in the world. With this certification you can confidently promote your Spanish language skills in every aspect of your professional and social life.

The exam is organized by the Instituto Cervates and the University of Salamanka and issued and recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain, and because of the high authority of its organizers and developers, the DELE exam is the official accreditation of the degree of fluency of the Spanish Language.

The exam gives certification for 6 different levels using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe as its guidelines. The DELE certification is the most recognized Spanish certification in the world.

There are six levels, with two points to each level -- Level A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. Completing the C2 certification is equivalent to being certified as a master Spanish speaker, while Level A1 is easier and more specialized based on a certain field of study.

Reading, writing, listening, and speaking are part of the exams.

If you make it to the DELE C2 exam, you’re attempting for a diploma equivalent to the level of Spanish Mastery (C2). This is the sixth of six levels within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe.

The DELE C2 exam certifies the linguistic competence necessary to efficiently handle any situation. Those taking the exam must demonstrate the ability to spontaneously adapt to any context with a high level of precision.

They must also demonstrate a strong command of subtle nuances that makes for natural fluency in all their interactions.

If you are not yet confident speaking, writing, reading, and listening to Spanish at a master level, consider specialized tutoring to help you study and prepare for the DELE exam.
