When to Take the MCAT

Are you planning to take a break from school or are you planning to jump straight into med-school?

You want to start asking yourself questions. Taking the MCAT will depend on several factors. Before you select your date you want to consider every detail.

If you choose to take the MCAT after you graduate, you want to start inquiring about your situation.

Begin by asking current med students or graduates how the process was for them. The more you know the more you can get a better idea of which date to choose.

Particularly, if you’re in college, by your third year decide when to take the MCAT. This allocates plenty of time for you to be able to submit an MCAT score to apply early for med school.

How to Register for the MCAT

All the MCAT is facilitated by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), you need to go through their official website to register. Every year they provide 20 test dates so be on the lookout for the best for you.

Choosing a date can be tricky if it's last minute, prepare as much as you can. Registering for the MCAT can be easy to procrastinate, but try to prioritize the dates first.

To continue your registration process, create an account before registration opens. Jot down your username, password, and security questions because you’ll be needing it often. Keep your ID close by you because this is your ticket in on test day. Follow up by choosing the open seats available at your desired location.

Can You Change Your MCAT Test Date?

Furthermore, changing dates for your MCAT test date won’t be that hard. All you need to do is first see which test center has opening seating. There are pros to changing everything at once instead of separately.

If you change them separately you risk being charged with a rescheduling fee.

You want to change them together and avoid being charged extra. When you change your test date, update the zone that you were currently registered for.

For instance, if you were in a silver time zone see what else is available for you. You can’t change your test date before the registration so be wise when you choose your prior dates. Keep in mind that the Bronze zone will cost you an additional $50 on top of your $325 registration fee.

When to Start Preparing for the MCAT

What type of learner are you? Does it take you some time to fully absorb the information or are you a fast learner? You want to consider these factors and give yourself ample time to study.

You will benefit from studying around 3 months at a minimum to 6 months of MCAT preparation. See the required prerequisites you need to take before even studying for the MCAT. Allocate a good amount of time where you can balance studying and preparing for the MCAT.

Our team understands the stress of juggling various priorities as students. We believe the best way is to set a deadline for yourself before registration. Start with small steps and gradual build on your work ethic.

How to Prepare for the MCAT

A crucial way to prepare for the MCAT is a strong study plan. The stronger your study plan is, the more confident you’ll feel during the official exam. This is important because the exam itself is a financial investment. You don’t want to overwork yourself nor do you want to miss a step in your process.

You want to complete courses in your undergraduate study before considering the MCAT registration.

For instance, you have to complete courses in Biology, Physics, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Psychology, and Sociology.

If you want to be seen as a suitable candidate, its best to start as early as possible. Seek more counseling with an advisor and see which steps you can start taking from your freshmen year.

Start Your MCAT Prep Plan Now!

For future doctors, the MCAT is one of the most important moments of your life. An attainable plan and a solid MCAT score range can launch you into your dreams. Your prep plan will ultimately rely on your test date.

Invest in your prep by getting a planner to see which dates you’ll be studying and which time you’ll need to recharge. Explore your options when it comes to your prep plan. There is no right or wrong way to prepare for the exam. Make your prep plan the best fit for you.

If you feel a little uneasy about a topic consider private tutoring. You want to consider reliable sources such as Princeton Review or form study groups. The tutoring packages will help you maximize your skills for the MCAT and chances of getting into med school.

MCAT Test and Score Release Dates

One of the most nerve-wracking moments is receiving a test score. Especially for an important test like the MCAT.

When you choose your specific test date the score release is usually 30 days after your exam.

The test usually begins at 8:00 AM and will be released on the specified date at around 5:00 PM. United States, Canada, and International dates are released with the 2019 test cycle.

If you’re considering taking the MCAT abroad, you want to think about the release for their test dates. The policies and procedures may be different.

Another aspect of work I've taken up is writing and I thoroughly enjoy it! I grew up in Arcadia, CA, and went to school at University of California, Santa Barbara before transferring to University of California, Irvine where I got my BS in Computer Science. I am currently working full time in software and am also fulfilling my prerequisites so I can apply to Medical School.
